Pollen Season in the UK and pollution

The birch pollen season is now well underway in the UK and there is a risk of of high birch and other tree pollen counts over the coming weeks prior to the grass pollen season commencing.

A lack of rain, strong winds and moderate temperatures will further increase pollen counts. As there is a synergistic allergic and 'irritative' effect between pollen and pollution so recent volcanic fallout may further increase the suffering of pollen allergic individuals. All should be sure too strictly take their 'preventer' and 'reliever' asthma and hayfever medications over the coming weeks.

Birch pollen affects about 25% of hay fever sufferers, and even low birch pollen counts may cause symptoms of hay fever in sensitive individuals. Birch pollen is also associated with the Oral Allergy Syndrome.
